What to do if you meet a lesbian: Hilarious lesbian cheat sheet unearthed
New York Magazine pop critic Judy Rosen unearthed an ‘educational’ gem whilst friend’s were packing for a move. The typed handout was from a 1988 UW Madison Women’s Studies Class and purported to give hints to students about what to do if they met a lesbian.

Tips include not running from the room if you meet one as its rude and not assuming she is attracted to you… And do not ask her how she got that way – ask yourself how you got this way…

Daily Grind… Shake It Up!

Edited2
Photoshop makes my spectacles look like cool shades. I’ll take it! It also makes my red head blonde…

Most of us have a job where we do the same thing, day in and day out.  It becomes “the daily grind”. I have the same job every day, but it’s everything but the same thing day in and day out. Yesterday was a simple lift assist for an elderly, disabled lady. Today was a three vehicle motor vehicle accident and tonight an elderly lady tripped, fell and cut her elbow open (she’s on Coumadin, a blood thinner) and waited six hours before calling for help. When my partner and I arrived on scene in looked like someone had been murdered. There was blood tracked all over the floors, throughout every room, the dog was covered in blood, it was all over the furniture and walls. It was grisly. The amazing part? This little, tiny ninety-four year old woman was still conscious and joking with us! God bless her!

Tomorrow could hold anything in store for us. Or the next ten minutes. If there’s anything I’ve learned from being on the job as a firefighter/EMT it’s that the entire world can change in one split second. Everything you knew, or thought you knew, can be gone in a heartbeat. We’re taught much, but rarely does anything go as expected. There’s no such thing as a routine call for chest pain, there’s no one, true and tried way of delivering oxygen to a patient. Every call is different. Each patient is different.

And I’m learning that you can never use the same stethoscope twice… because they get hijacked the moment you turn your back.

God, I LOVE MY JOB!

I Can Count on Two Hands…

First, let’s send Ms. Page some love! She’s a brave, courageous young woman. I couldn’t imagine coming out as the entire world looked on.
Secondly, I can count on both of my hands how many times I’ve been approached on the street or in a grocery store by people mistaking me for Ellen Page. I worked retail at an outlet store back in 2007 when the movie Juno came out and I actually had an elderly lady ask if I was there to promote Liz Claiborne. I had no idea what she was talking about until she said, “Ellen, dear, you’re such a beautiful, talented young lady. I feel like a little kid again seeing you here. You’re my favorite new actress.” At that point it hit me and I still hadn’t seen that movie yet. I tried so hard to convince her that I wasn’t Ellen Page, even had my manager explain who I am, but she ran with it. She was convinced that after such a wonderful movie and becoming famous I came to New England to lay low for awhile. We never did convince her that I’m not Ellen Page, but I guess that’s okay because the excitement in her eyes and voice when she told us she couldn’t wait to tell her granddaughters that she’d met Ellen Page and Ellen Page actually rang up her purchases seemed to revitalize this elderly lady.
Since then I’ve had people ask me, “Ellen Page?!”, to which I reply with a deflated no, and they put their head down and hastily scurry away.

I Am Happy to Come Last

I am fortunate enough that I’ve found a job that I love. I live for helping people. I’m happy to put myself and my life last in my priorities if it means that I can get someone else back to their own family. God bless all those who live by the code and their families, who all too often also sacrifice for the love of others.
